Join iCHORDS on Friday May 9, 10 am EST for a webinar on “Sharing principles: Persons affected by NTDs in operational research”.

🗣️ Session description:
WHO SKIN NTDs Operational Research Working Group subteam have been working to Develop Principles for the Engagement of People Affected By Skin NTDs in Operational Research. During this research session the sub-team will introduce the principles, and seek feedback from all present to strengthen and improve upon these. There will be the opportunity to hear examples of how some of these principles have been applied in operational research studies with persons affected. Finally, there will be time for discussion and reflection by all on how these principles have been used previously, as well as what is needed to support their application in the future.

🎤 Session speakers:
1. Rajni Kant Singh is a physio Technician by profession with more than 29 years of experience in leprosy, LF and international development. Rajni represents Lepra (UK) and LEPRA Society in various National and International forums. He is also the State Coordinator of Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh States in India. Rajni was himself affected by LF and he has faced the medical, physical, mental, and social challenges that this involved. Rajni is part of the World Health Organization operational group and has been part of the development of the principles, which he will introduce.

2. Emmanuel Zaizay is the chairperson for the Network for persons affected by NTDs Liberia (NEPA NTDs). He is from Lofa County, Liberia, where he worked as a co-researcher for @REDRess. Emmanuel is a peer advocate and person affected by Buruli ulcer from Lofa county, Liberia. Emmanuel has led the development of a network of people affected by NTDs in Liberia and links with the African Alliance of people affect by NTDs. Emmanuel will be sharing about how operational research helped create the spaces needed for persons affected to network, contributing to the establishment of NEPA NTDs.

3. Suresh Dhondge works with The Leprosy Mission Trust India, as NLEP Consultant (National Leprosy Eradication Program) for the state of Maharashtra, and as a Programme Manager – Children Unite For Action (CUFA) & Interrupting Leprosy Transmission Project. Suresh has lived experience of leprosy cured. He will be sharing about the Inclusive Research study, which demonstrates many of the principles.
