Overview of Scientific Program Committee:
The ASTMH Scientific Program Committee oversees program development and scientific content for the Society’s Annual Meeting. The committee is divided into subcommittees along areas of expertise (e.g. Malaria,
Virology, Global Health). Symposia and abstract presentations at the Annual Meeting generally come from submissions from Society members and others interested in the fields of tropical medicine and global health.

The Scientific Program Committee reviews these submissions and selects material for presentation, organizing scientific sessions and providing guidance for symposium organization. The Committee also provides guidance
in constructing calls for symposia and abstracts, ensuring that timely topics are highlighted in these program solicitations.

Roles and Responsibilities of Scientific Program Committee Members:
• Review program material during the timeframe of February through September each year. The number
of symposium proposals or abstracts to be reviewed varies by year and topic.
• Have reliable internet access throughout the year to receive materials and confer with other members
of the Program Committee in order to conduct timely review, occasionally needing to meet tight
deadlines.
• Committee members who serve as subcommittee chairs may periodically be asked to participate in
phone conferences, typically 2-3 per year, to facilitate program planning.
• Attend an in-person meeting of the Program Committee held during the Annual Meeting. Please note
that there is no travel support for Program Committee members.
• Committee members are appointed for a three-year term, with the option of renewal for a second
term at the discretion of the committee member and the Scientific Program Chair.

Criteria for Scientific Program Committee Members:
• Current member of ASTMH
➢ If selected, please note that the committee term requires a 3-year commitment.
➢ Since a current ASTMH membership is required to serve on the Program Committee, selected applicants commit to pay membership dues for each year of the 3-year term.
• Past Program Committee members are not eligible to apply in order to provide as many members as possible with the opportunity for first-time participation on the Program Committee.
• Demonstrated expertise in a field of interest related to tropical medicine and global health
• Please note this exception: Due to Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) requirements, ASTMH cannot accept applications from members who are employees and/or owners of organizations “whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients. Owners are defined as individuals who have an ownership interest in a company, except for stockholders of publicly traded companies, or holders of shares through a pension or mutual fund.”
• ASTMH seeks to promote diversity with regard to gender, race/ethnicity, country, organization (including academia, governmental and non-governmental institutions) and area of expertise on the Program Committee. ASTMH members from low- and middle-income countries are especially encouraged to apply.

Application Requirements:
• Provide a Statement of Interest (no more than 3500 characters, including spaces) describing:
➢ Your interest in serving on the Program Committee
➢ A description of your professional background; research, clinical, and/or global health interests/expertise
➢ Any prior experience on a scientific review committee; include experience reviewing symposia and abstracts submitted to meetings of professional societies, manuscripts and funding proposals
➢ Include relevant public health background, familiarity with modeling and/or program operations, and any overseas experience
• Provide an up-to-date CV or NIH format biosketch.

• Scientific Program Committee invitations will be sent in April 2026.
• Committee service begins in late April/May 2026.
