A new reserch article was uploaded to the “Transactions of The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene” journal titled “Integrating the crowdsourced image-based morbidity hotspot surveillance for neglected tropical diseases (CIMS-NTDs) into Nigeria’s healthcare system: a mixed methods study”. In this article, the authors propose using a crowd-based surveillance system as a novel approach to identifying NTD hotspots in Ondo, Nigeria. This system relies on the involvement of the community, including affected individuals, and trained community persons (CCPS) to digitally submit images of suspected cases of NTDs. The paper found that the proposed method significantly improved disease monitoring and reporting; however, implementation largely depends on community engagement, capacity building, reducing the digital divide gap, government adoption, and sustainability.
