We are seeking a reliable handy person to join our health research team in several countries, especially Mozambique. The person will be responsible for providing logistical support, setting up, and maintaining facilities for our research team. The ideal candidate will have experience in logistics, carpentry, maintenance, plumbing, hospitals/clinics, and handyman work, with a strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities:
Provide support to researchers and project staff, manage and maintain equipment/sites and facilities, and ensure supplies. Coordinate and oversee the transportation of equipment, specimens, and personnel to various locations. Ensure that facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained. Facilitate the setup and dismantling of equipment and facilities. Ensure good relationships with the community, suppliers, stakeholders, authorities, and anyone
Requirements:
Valid passport and citizenship that ensures unrestricted travel between South Africa and Mozambique.
Proven experience in logistics, maintenance, or a related field.
Can organise practicalities for conferences, field research, health research, community-based projects, school projects,and large-group travelling
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong team player
Strong time management skills.
Willingness to work in all kinds of contexts worldwide, including remote/ dirty/ foreign areas
Adaptable and able to work in a multicultural team and experience in multicultural communication. Understands safety issues, and political issues that may influence work
Flexible and able to manage stress, long hours, and high-intensity work.
Self-driven with a solution-oriented approach
Able to train others
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to travel and work in remote locations.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Versatile professional experience (e.g., procurement, import/export, transport/freight, stock management, setting up buildings, water and sanitation, organising accommodation for field teams)
IT skills (Excel, Word, Internet, Zoom, etc.)
Fluent in English and Portuguese,
