Getnet Tadele

Getnet Tadele is a professor in the Department of Sociology, Addis Ababa University. He is also a honorary professor at Jimma University, Adjunct Professor at Bahirdar University and a Global Fellow at the Centre on Law and Social Transformation, University of Bergen, Norway. He earned his BA degree from Addis Ababa University, MSc from the University of Newcastle, Australia, and PhD from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.


He is a distinguished academic whose work bridges the fields of health and social sciences, with a particular focus on global health challenges. His key areas of interest include neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), childhood studies, and sexual and reproductive health. He is the co-editor of the book “Vulnerabilities, Impacts, and Responses to HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa” (Palgrave Macmillan) and the author of another book “Bleak Prospects: Young Men, Sexuality, and HIV/AIDS in an Ethiopian Town” (Leiden: African Studies Centre, Brill Academic Publishers).
