Waqas Ahmad has been serving as an Assistant Professor in Epidemiology & Public Health at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS)-Lahore, Pakistan since 2016. His academic and research interests include epidemiological investigations of zoonotic diseases, one health, infectious diseases at the animal-human-environment interface with a special focus on dog-mediated human rabies. I am running a pilot project to establish diagnostic surveillance using One Health approach in his region. Waqas has also been serving as a member of the United Against Rabies (UAR) forum of the WOAH and a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Neglected Tropical Diseases (STAG-NTD) Working Group on Monitoring, Evaluation and Research’ (M&E) for the term 2024-2027 to support WHO/NTD to implement the M&E framework. He edited the 1st open access research book about dog-mediated rabies in Asia. He is the leading young scientist in the field of dog-mediated human rabies from Pakistan, holds various international and national awards/honours and has presented his research works at multiple global desks and forums. Additionally, he is handling submissions as an Associate Editor in the IJID One Health (Elsevier publishers) and Journal of Advanced Veterinary and Animal Research (JAVAR) & as a reviewer for several peer reviewed Journals as well. He is also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) of UK that advocates his expertise in communicating scientific research to the students and general audience.
