Through various forums over the last few years (WHO technical meetings, COR-NTD, etc.), the issue of ‘systematic non-compliance’ has been prioritized as highly important. Highlighted especially when there are hot spots, persistent transmission or transmission assessment failures, the question arises about whether there are groups of individuals who are sustaining transmission due to missed treatment. Understanding who these individuals may be is largely dependent on routine programmatic data on “who missed MDA” and through coverage evaluation surveys and field research. Measuring if these individuals have never participated in treatment may not necessarily be answered.
This session aims to:
● Present the proceedings from three research review meetings held from December 2020-February 2021 to begin to understand what has been done from research and programmatic perspectives to measure and address ‘systematic non-compliance’ in lymphatic filariasis.
● Propose an alternative term to replace ‘systematic non-compliance’ to reflect better the nature of the issue
● Explore the use of a new indicator to ascertain prevalence of ‘systematic non-compliers’ in the program
