Perspectives from the Field on ‘Systematic non-compliance’

On May 13th 2021, iCHORDS and COR-NTD hosted a Research Links Session titled: “Addressing the issue of systematic non-participation in mass drug administration for lymphatic filariasis”. In this session, we discussed results from a previous research review meeting and looked into a term to replace what has become known as ‘systematic non-compliance.’

We also discussed the use of an indicator within routinely collected data to better understand who never participates in mass drug administration and look at operational research gaps based on our current understanding.

As a part of this session, we highlighted individuals who had knowledge and experience on this issue through short videos at the beginning of the session. Specifically, we wanted to obtain insight around the following questions:

1.    Describe a situation that you encountered where people have never taken treatment?

2.    Describe something you have done or have seen done to address this issue?

3.    How important is ‘systematic non-compliance’ in your country / program / community?

Through this video, we departed on a journey to hear from the perspectives of individuals in Guyana, Burkina Faso, Nepal, and India.
