Research Methods Highlight: Outcome Harvesting

July 20, 2023

This past week iCHORDS released episode 9 of The Last Mile Podcast. In this episode we interviewed Mack Giancola and Geordie Woods from Sightsavers. Sightsavers is using Outcome Harvesting to evaluate their Accelerate Program in pursuit of Trachoma elimination.

Outcome Harvesting is a participatory approach to program evaluation. The goal is to identify change through the involvement of and collaboration with key partners. The methodology was developed by Richard Wilson-Grau starting in the early 2000s, and was influenced by outcome mapping and Utilization-Focused Evaluation.

Outcome Harvesting has shown to be particularly helpful in the evaluation of programs or interventions centred around policy, advocacy and/or social change.
This unique approach to program evaluation offers another medium to evaluate and enhance NTD programmes as we work towards the WHO 2030 NTD Roadmap goals.
